How to Become a Hawaii Notary:

Compared to other states, Hawaii has few eligibility requirements to become a notary. The process is simple and affordable (from $25.00) for a four-year Hawaii notary term. To become a notary in Hawaii, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a Hawaii resident for income tax purposes and claim the Hawaii residence as your primary residence on state and federal tax returns
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident
  • Be able to read, write and understand the English language
  • Not be disqualified to receive a commission under section ARS §41-271
  • Download the Notary Public Reference Manual from Secretary of State’s website

If you meet these qualification requirements, follow the steps below to become a Hawaii notary

  1. Order a four-year, $5,000 Hawaii notary bond. All Hawaii notary applicants are required to be bonded during the four-year term of their Hawaii notary commission. Click here to purchase a notary bond.

  2. Complete a Hawaii notary application online. The Hawaii Secretary of State requires all notary applicants to complete a notary application on their website. Click here to start the Hawaii notary application.

  3. Mail your completed forms and fee to the state. Mail the completed Hawaii notary application, the notary bond, notarized oath of office form, and a processing fee of $43.00 to the Hawaii Secretary of State.

  4. Order a notary stamp and a notary journal. Once approved as a Hawaii notary, forward us a copy of the notary commission certificate so we can prepare your notary stamp and any other notary supplies you ordered.
